No Programmes in Add/Remove Folder
The above fix will only toggle Show Updates. Even if this is off, you
should still see Applications there. Show Updates is in order for you to see Microsoft Update patches (the KB#####) files. The regular apps, as well whatever third party programs you installed, should still be showing. Is anything there ... or is the entire page blank? First, do the following: 1. Open Regedit 2. Go to key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall 3. Expand the branch ('+') Is anything there? 4. Close Regedit If so, then do the following test: 1. Open System Restore (Start Menu | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore) 2. Is the page empty? If so, then there are two files that have been corrupted. This took me nearly 3 days to find. I almost rebuilt my system. Somehow the following files have been overwritten: 1. %SystemRoot%\system32\shdocvw.dll 2. %SystemRoot%\system32\mshtml.dll Add/Remove display is an html page, as is System Restore. I do not know what has changed these, but the files had gotten changed. Compare you versions to these: shdocvw.dll: 6.00.2900.2877 (xpsp.060329-1554) Size: 1.42 MB (1,495,040 bytes) Created: Sunday, April 9, 2006, 11:40:05 AM Modified: Thursday, March 30, 2006, 5:27:01 AM mshtml.dll: 6.00.2900.2873 (xpsp.060322-1626) Size: 2.91 MB (3,055,616 bytes) Created: Sunday, April 9, 2006, 11:37:41 AM Modified: Thursday, March 23, 2006, 4:31:39 PM Those are the current versions I have on my system. Ensure this is the problem by trying the System Restore display test. "tobyjug01" wrote in message ... No Programmes in Add/Remove Folder
No i must be a bit thick, that appears to delete files, i cant understand
when i install a programme it doesn't show up in the Add/Remove section in Control panel, there are no programmes listed in Add/Remove, so if i download a programme it doesn't put it in there so i cant delete it, if for any reason i should need to, it just puts it into Programme folders on my HD...anymore ideas, sorry i'm a bit non-technically minded? No Programmes in Add/Remove Folder
hi, i opened regedit as you suggested, and expanded HKEY_current _user..only
thing that looks funny is ab(default) REG_SZ (value not set), in control panel in Add/Remove Programmes the page is totally blank even when i have installed my own programmes to the PC......i'm thick so dont really want to mess with the registry. In system restore i can take it back to the last checkpoint, but i'm a thick bugger so i dont really understand what you mean...sorry Larry "Larry Gardner" wrote: The above fix will only toggle Show Updates. No Programmes in Add/Remove Folder
Since you can see Checkpoints ... that test passed. It's not the
shdocvw.dll problem. Don't know why you checked: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\.... My path for you to check was: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall The reason for that was because the list that you should see when you open Add/Remove Programs is built from that Key. Everything under that key shows up on the Add/Remove page. If that key is empty ... that would mean that your list is gone. There are ways to mark everything in that list to be hidden, so you're going to have to look at the entries. You said the page is COMPLETELY Blank. So you do not see: Currently installed programs and updates: Show updates Sort by: Name You do not see that across the top, do you see any buttons on the left? Do you see a Scroll Bar to the right? Partitons: Use Administrative Tools | Computer Management. Under Storage, click on Disk Management. If you do not have a application that permits Resizing partitions, and you have Windows on the only partition. You cannot do it ... unless you backup, and reformat. There are apps out there ... that do this for you (www.v-com.com System Commander - is one). They provide you the ability to resize an active partition, so that you can create partitions from the free space on the drive.
