SP2 - Files Not Found During Backup
After installing SP2, Disk Cleanup & Defrag, I ran my normal PC backup
software (Stomp/BackUpMyPC). I've never received a error in the past. This time, I received the following error messages regarding *Files Not Found*: Error: C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\ACVERFYR.DLL - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q327979.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB810243.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q814995.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q811630.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q323255.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q817606.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB824141.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB821557.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB828028.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q828026.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q811493.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q329390.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB820291.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB821253.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q810833.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q329441.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q817287.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q810565.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB822603.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB282010.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB829558.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB825119.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB810217.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q329834.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB823182.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q322011.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q328310.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q331953.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q329170.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q810577.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q815021.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB824146.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB824105.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q329115.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB823559.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB828035.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q329048.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\KB823980.CAT - not found Error: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\Q814033.CAT - not found Since there were numerous file changes for SP2, I'm presuming that the file / catalog cleanup wasn't complete or there are references in a Restore file that have become redundant. However, it would be nice to have the issue addressed. -- TJ |

Thanks, but the software isn't the problem.
It builds a new list of files to backup every time it runs. The errors I received definitely denotes a problem with the Windows Catalog... Thanks, but I own and run the software.
Opinions are nice but I'm looking for REAL answers... "Manimal" wrote: sorry but i agree, i think it is a compatability problem with the software. Then why not start with tech support of the program that is giving you the problem? Yes, obviously there is an odd interaction with SP2 between that program and SP2 on your machine, but since other programs don't throw errors and other backup software works fine on other people's machines, the logical place to start looking for "real answers" is with the people who made your backup application. I did contact Stomp. Their response was
"There are no known issues with backup my pc and sp2." It seems as though no one from Microsoft gives a hang about these Forums or its Users anyway. What a waste..... What a waste..... OK, well since you didn't tell us you'd already contacted Stomp's tech support, there wasn't any way for us to know so the logical answer to you was to contact Stomp's tech support. I'm sorry that Stomp's tech support didn't do a good job. Do they have any user groups or forums where you might post? This isn't Microsoft support. This is a peer-to-peer newsgroup manned strictly by volunteers. Occasionally someone from MS does post here, but it is on their own time and not as an official company representative. The reason you got opinions and suggestions is that apparently no one reading this group has experienced the problem with the backup software that you did. So people did offer suggestions. I'm sorry that wasn't what you wanted, but that is the nature of this newsgroup. If I had a definitive answer for you, I would be happy to share it with you. Did you try uninstalling/reinstalling the backup software? Good luck, Malke -- MS MVP - Windows Shell/User Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" |
