XP does not hold monitor setting when shutdown

I was forced to buy a new monitor (old one died) and the only ones available locally were the wide
screen variety.
I bought an Acer x223w.
My video card is a Nivdia MX440 with AGP8X. The drivers are the latest available from Nivdia.
Computer is XP HOME with SP3

There are no drivers from Acer specifically for Windows XP and XP display control sees it as a Plug
& Play.
The Nivdia Control Center does identify the monitor as an Acer x223w

The recommended resolution was 1680x1024 (1.6 to 1 ratio) but that make items too small to read for
these old eyes. So I have it set for 1280x800 (also a 1.6 to 1 ratio)

This setting works great, but I turn the pc off at night and in the morning, the monitor comes up in
a much lower resolution and I have to reset it for the 1280x800 each day. That change always screws
up the icon placement as well.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same monitor and the same
operating system .
I have it set to 1024 x 768 and have had
no problems whatsoever .
when I tried the recommended settings ,
I got the same results as you .
I could be wrong but I don't believe
that you need the two acer drivers .
I device mgr. , mine also lists " plug & play ".
I'm very interested in what others may
have to say in this regard.

Then tried the install the INF file - no response
Then tried to update the driver, pointing to the files, "no supported files" response.
Even though the Acer site states that this is the XP/Vista driver, the uncompressing makes a folder
called "Vista Driver".

Unfortunately the problem is not solved.
While it held the resolution for a short term shut-down, shutting down
over night loses the resolution setting and it drops back to a low
setting again.
I have to reset it every time.

Does your clock lose time? Maybe your CMOS battery needs changing.
Does Windows still recognize the monitor the Acer? Now that XP sees it as
such (if it still does), you might try uninstalling the Nvidia driver,
rebooting, then re-installing it.
