And who are you? Why should people go to the web forum instead of here?
Certainly it's another venue for free tech support, but you give the
impression that you're chasing people away and that they'll get no answers
here, which is certainly not the case.

The word 'social' should be enough to convince most newsgroup users to
realize that most the useful features of newsgroup readers is lost; that is
way more nonsense than having to put up with a few trolls.

pft There are plenty of trolls & once-and-done posters in those forums!
And you must use a Live ID to post a question or reply.

QED: Why do the IE-specific Win7, Vista, and WinXP forums all point to

hogwash

The content in private forums can be erased at the whim of
the operator of the forum. Which is why I never participate
in web forums. I've seen two wonderful sources of information
erased forever, on a whim. Containing the work of hundreds of
contributors. And the contributors had no say, in when the
information was erased. All it takes, is a corporation
with things to hide, or money to save.

USENET posts are archived in more than one place, so they
may stick around a little bit longer than some web forum.

Even if a web forum sticks around, if some genius decides to
rejig the BBS server type software, then again, all the
previous posts may be tossed in the garbage. I've seen that
on many forums. The server operators won't waste an extra
moment, figuring out how to port the previous posts, into
the new forum database. So they just toss all the old posts.
People who provide help, expect that help to stick around,
so it can be found in a future search.

In case you haven't noticed, when a Vista user clicks on "Help and
Support" and looks under the topic "Ask Someone", the second sub-topic
reads:

"Get help from experts and other users online at Microsoft Answers".

Clicking on "Microsoft Answers" takes the user to the new Windows Vista
Forums. Therefore, Microsoft is directing users seeking assistance to
its new forums and not any "newsgroup". Sure, newsgroups are a useful
venue, but the forums seem to have a heck of a lot more Microsoft System
Engineers and MS-MVP presence than newsgroups do now.

Microsoft has come to the conclusion that MVPs on the newsgroups are abusing its
customers let alone they are bunch of crackpots, loonies and nutcases.

You can continue posting questions here but bear in mind that you will get
Pig-Bear who will question your motives.

Funny they said the same of Albert Einstein too.

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second,
it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
Arthur Schopenhauer -- German philosopher (1788 - 1860)

We have reached the third stage where it is accepted that MVPs are a complete bunch of
nutters.

Yeah well like all rules... none of them are perfect. I am sure some
MVP's are very good. I say this not trusting some of them. ;-)
