Default NERO Burn Rights required WinNT/2000 error

I have the Nero which came with my TDK CD Writer & all
the latest updates. But....I think the fix suggested DID
actually work.. even tho I've gone & done OTHER things
like making the CD writer shared (which I probably didn't
need to do).

When I went into the user's account this time & took my
time to actually LOOK at it more closely,... when it
defaulted to "burn image" but did NOT give me the error
pop-up, I didn't think to see if I could select a
different recorder... which I was able to do. So, I am
later going back in, restoring the CD-RW & Nero to the
original security states & then just applying the
solution Derek offered. Guess that's what comes from
trying to make the problem more complicated than it
actually is ( lol ).

Thanks. (& thanks, Derek)

Silly question: Are you running the most recent version

of Nero available to
you?

Ok.. I tried that.. it didn't work....

The exact error message is: "Under Windows NT/2000

burn-
rights are required by Nero to access cd recorders &

cd-
rom/dvd-rom devices. Please ask your system
administrator for a permission to use Nero."

First: I'm not using Windows NT OR 2000, so I'm curious
of this error message.

Second: I've even gone into the registry & allowed all
control to the Ahead/Nero HKLM software folder, shared
the cd-rw & allowed all control, & even went into Local
Policies-Security Options & enabled reformat & eject

of
removable medium. I've also tried making a user a

Power
User & even that didn't work. I CAN'T give them Admin
status. Any other options? BTW, is there a difference
between "Users" & "Interactive Users"
because "Administrators & Interactive Users" was the

only
user-like option in the "Restrict CD-ROM Access to
locally logged on user only" Local Policies.

thanks

You need to open the Local Security Policy in Admin
tools, then choose Local Policies-Security Options,

in
there is an option labelled "Restrict CD-Rom Access to
locally logged on user only" this needs to be enabled,
then Nero will work fine for all users of the machine.
This can also be enforced from the Server (if present)
using Group Policy.

The flip side of this is that once this option is

enabled
Xp's built in Cd-Writing no longer functions...so u
basically have to choose which u prefer, Nero or XP.

I was able to simply drag & drop a copy of a

shortcut for
Nero to the All Users desktop folder and all users

can
startup Nero. However, they also all get an error

pop- up
saying "... WinNT/2000 ...Nero needs burn access to

the
CD/RW CD-Rom... contact system administrator..."

I've gone in and changed the access to total control

via
the right-click Security method. Is there something

else
I need to do? I am running WinXP Pro version.
