Default Windows Firewall

Has anyone managed to configure the Windows firewall over GP, as i have never
been able to fully configure it and it always seems to block services i dont
want it to. I have followed guides on the internet but i have a feeling that
the issue is the string i need to add to allow access to and from a certain
port.

I dont suppose someone can give me some advice / config on how to enable the
windows firewall and configure it to allow network shares, printer shares,
remote desktop and allow access to port 1000 for example (as we have software
running on this).
