Default How to convert DVD vob files to a mpeg 2 file?

It's that size because they show you how to do it using lots of different
programs. Just pick the section most relevant to you... One of the
simplest method is to use a program called Vidomi which will take your VOB's
and give you an AVI, once you've configured all the options... Again, there
should be a guide for this on that site, as well as download links.

Personally, I use DVD2AVI myself as Vidomi, although good, is really aimed
at the beginner... You'll get much better results doing it the long and
complicated way.

No one ever said doing this is easy...

The www.dvdrhelp.com XviD guide with all it's links is 40 pages long and

Most definately NOT. WMV is good for streaming, but that's about it.

If
you want to store it on CD, then I would recommend either DiVX or XViD.

Of
the two, I find XViD gives slightly better results. If you want it to

be
playable in a DVD player, then you should use MPEG1 or MPEG2 format

instead.

All guides for this are on www.dvdrhelp.com. There also used to be a

Compressing in Windows Movie Maker 2 is much easier. Windows Movie Maker 2
automatically determines the best codec for the compression. But it doesn't
import VOBs. I will try to use your suggestions.

For the sake of simplicity, you might consider the evaluation/ purchase of
an inexpensive commercially available utility such as Pinnacle "Instant
Copy." It should do most everything you want in terms of transferring DVD
content directly to CD R/W media, and, without all the hassels and headaches
attributed to using freeware products.

http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPa...53&Langue_ID=7

Keep in mind that there are other DVD authoring packages available that
directly import VOB (DVD formatted content) and format/ burn to CD; i.e. DVD
Workshop, Sonic MyDVD (I believe it supports VOB) and probably quite a few
others.

Use DVD2SVCD from www.dvd2svcd.org It rips the VOB's
converts to MPEG and creates the required disk images to
burn to CD. There are many links to user guides on the
site.

I've already said that there ARE no longer any free apps which can do

this.
As for the old version of VirtualDUB, there used to be a link to it on
www.dvdrhelp.com but this program cannot read VOB's so you would need to
convert to an AVI first anyway. No matter what you do, you are going to
HAVE to use an intermedia conversion format to go from VOB to WMV (which

is
a sucky format IMHO anyway).

Maybe you should reevaluate what you actually want to DO with the

files....
