If the file was created in for instance Word 2003 then you have to reopen it
in the same software to see it as it was prepared, if you open a word 2003
file in wordpad you will find it will display odd characters or look odd in
appearance.

You will probably find the internet cafe has the program to open the file
where your machine does not, there are many free office suites available that
can open various formats, just google for them.

What is the file extension of the documents? If they are .rtf you may
find help he

Do you have Microsoft Office installed on your pc? Word should be able
to open these documents properly.

Hello
Thank you for your help.I am new in this subject but I checked and I have
Microsoft Works,OneNote,NotePad,WordPad.However no matter which program I use
to open my document the same trouble returns. To make matters worse part of
information text has disappeared...I spent some time searching on Microsoft
website and others.Came across a term: converting a document from one
format to different one .May this help?

then you obviously do not have the correct application to open these
documents in their original format. Assuming they have been created in Word,
your best bet is to download and install the latest version of the free
office suite OpenOffice.
This will allow you to open Word documents "mote-or-less" as they were
created.

As I said earlier and like the others say, you either need to obtain the
original program that created the file or hunt for a free alternative like
open office, if you just want to view the file then find out what the
extension of the file is and donwload a viewer for that file type.

What is the file extension? You need to use the proper application to
open the file or have an application that can convert the file.

If you cannot see the file extension try this:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/as...spx?mode=print

We NEED to know the last three letters (the file extension) in order to
properly help you. In other words the file name will look like this:
filename.XXX We need to know what .XXX is.

It's a doc file.

Wordpad can open but only displays basic formatting. It's a doc file. Attempting to save a doc file in Wordpad will give the prompt to convert to RTF.

I gave you a link to view it. How many months do you intend to spend downloading Open Office. At best it will take about 15 hours. Microsoft's viewer will take a bit less than two hours and will view it perfectly.
