Default ROUTER configuration Questions

Typically you want to open TCP and UDP ports. What model of router do you
have? Drop me an email - if you have a router than allows it to be
configured remotely I can set up the necessary stuff for you.

Default ROUTER configuration Questions

For help on forwarding, select your route on this page:
http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm

Select your app/s on the next page and follow the instrictions on the last
page.

A word of caution when playing the PnP sharing game, if you aren't very very
very careful your machine will get hurt.

Default ROUTER configuration Questions

First, you need to disable DHCP on your router, and set the pc you are trying
to forward to with a static IP address.

If this all sounds like greek to you, then email me... If I can fix it in 5
minutes or less its a freebie

Default ROUTER configuration Questions

DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT EVER let anyone enter your into the routers
configuration setup unless you have a personal friendship and which you know to
be 100% trustworthy. Especially if you aren't familiar with the web based
configuration, you would never be able to tell if any doors were left open
intentionally until it was too late. There are many web sites with information
aside from getting advice from others, but NEVER, and I do mean NEVER let
another unfamiliar party enter the setup.

Probably good advice, but I don't appreciate the implication.

No Probably about it, it's the best advice one could heed and I stand by it.
I'm sorry that you feel implicated simply because I stated a factual security
risk for any/all users that decide they'ld like to setup their own network.

Well - you shouldn't mind the implication. You should expect it.

Seriously. You are offering help to perfect strangers - and they are being
offered help by perfect strangers. Help in the form of "try this, read
this, does your system have this?" is one thing - but asking/allowing
someone into your home - that is a well documented 'social-engineering'
request if I have ever seen one.

"Hey, this is Shenan in "Your Company's name" computer helpdesk and I was
looking at your account and noticed an issue and need to get your
information to verify your account is valid. What username/password did you
log in with today?"

No matter how 'honest' your intentions are, you should expect to have people
question your intentions on such a forum as this.

Offering to point someone to a place to learn and read and figure things out
on their own is generally better - because someday - you won't be around. =)
