Default Registry backup

Quick question: approx. how much space do I need to backup, (Export),
the complete registry of my Windows7 64bit home computer. Just trying to
figure where I need to save it to.
I don't see anywhere a 'properties' feature in regedit, to see its
size. Thanks.

During my weekly backups, I backup the entire partition that includes
all of Windows 7, sometimes doing a full backup and sometimes doing an
incremental backup (backing up only what has changed since the prior
backup).

If I plan to tweak some registry keys, I might export just the key above
the one I am changing. That is, if I am tweaking something in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings, I might export only
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers. Exporting the entire registry and then
importing it to wipe out my changes just takes too long.

Yes, there is at least one instance of voter fraud in this
election. However, the fraud was committed in favor -- not
against -- Donald Trump. As reported by ABC News, an
election judge in Illinois cast her dead husband's absentee
ballot for Trump, a felony in that state. She has been removed
from her position as an election judge.

See

Open Regedit, right click on "Computer," and export.

Thanks David, I need to try and fix the Windows Update fiasco and I
have tried most remedies. They have all failed for one reason or
another. I'm going to try resetting it with "ResetWUEng" utility. I have
no clue what registry settings it may, or may not, change. I thought a
blanket backup would be prudent as I am pretty ignorant with regedit.

I've been told that's not very effective. The Export is text, but some
keys are binary and so won't translate well. Also, some keys are
protected by permissions and may not export as you might expect.

I use Tweaking.com's "Registry Backup" utility which backs up the
system registry and all user registries. The last backup took up 194 MB
of disk space.

Depends on your computer.
When I installed 7/64 clean on this machine in on Nov 18, 2013 a reg export was 94 megs.
Today, Nov 6, 2016 its at 237 megs.

How are you going to _use_ the backup?

You might want to give this freeware program a look:

http://www.tweaking.com/content/page...ry_backup.html

"Registry Backup is a free backup tool that will use the Windows Volume
Shadow Copy Service to backup your system registry.
For Windows XP, 2003, Vista, 2008, 7, 8, 8.1, 2012, 10 (32 & 64 Bit)"

+1

I just posted a reply also recommending it. Sorry.

Look at ERUNT.

Use it once with your HDD as destination and see the size.

I used to use ERUNT until it quit working and nothing I did would make
it work again.

Tweaking.com Registry Backup is superior IMHO.
