Printouts have horizontal banding
Andy wrote:
I have a Canon MG 2220 printer. I have having problems with my printouts having horizontal bands across them. I have cleaned heads using CUPS. I also just physically cleaned the printer heads. There was a lot of ink and some was pooled on the bottom of printer. I refill my cartridges. Picture of printout is here. https://www.dropbox.com/s/4i8eveduag...nding.png?dl=0 thanks, Andy Why not just try new or rebuilt cartridges? https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...ridge&_sacat=0 |

Andy I wonder how they drive that ? 7680 holes, 9600 DPI ? https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/t-gAA...ocm/s-l300.jpg What kind of electrical interface makes that possible ? It's amazing. It looks like the color and the black cartridge have different heights on their print surface. https://www.amazon.com/Novajet-Reman.../dp/B072KDM2TW Are those the right cartridges ? Something has to drive out a pattern at high speed (serially) to the Kapton film top contact, and from there, to the micromachined head. There must be a chip in the head that decodes and stores the high speed pattern, to print out a column of dots. I think I'd inspect the platen (the running surface the paper rides over) for roughness. The only way a thing like that could foul up, is if the connection memory inside the printer is defective. Like, if the original cartridge and the replacement cart print *exactly* the same defective pattern, maybe it's an electrical failure of the board/chip inside the printer. I can't imagine a processor driving out the pattern directly, and maybe something loads a whole row into a RAM, before the printer starts a run across the sheet or something. As an example of the concept, we had a printer at work with a "video interface". The signal concept was similar to a TV set, and pixels came belching out at 2Mbit/sec. And the printer scanned that pattern across the surface (it was a laser). So that was high speed serial too. And if you wanted gradients, they were done with halftone (in software). Paul |

Paul They are the right cartridges. It's amazing what they can do. I have already invested a lot of time into the problem. My b/w laser is good enuf. If I really need a color print, I will take a flash drive to Office Depot. Andy I predict that when the scanner goes out, I will take the printer totally apart. Then I will find and be able to fix the printer banding problem. :-) Murphy's strikes again. |

Paul Speaking of it's resolution. It's so good, that I can see things that I would need a magnifying glass to see on the item scanned. The scanner is like a microscope. |

There's a US review listed here. https://www.bestbuy.ca/Catalog/UsCus...x?Sku=11615361 " * maxthrottle * Originally posted on Bestbuy.com * Nov 16, 2017 3.0 Good, not great Unlike all but two reviewers who received this printer for free, I purchased it. SO my review is not paid for. Any reviewer who accepts a free item is not unbaised. This printer is a pain in the tush to set up . It does not use a USB cord for connections so the set up time is lengthy. If this is not done exactly as explained you're SOL.. Printing quality is fair. Speed a bit on the slow side. The cost of the ink is really the biggest draw. But t his also depends on how much coverage your printed pages use. I have not been through an entire cartridge so I cannot comment on the veracity of the page claims made by the manufacturer. Overall if you want a basic printer and are willing to spend a lot more for the printer up front in hopes of saving on the ink , this may be for you. Other printers exist which are better but the ink is more expensive. If you print a lot the cheapest path is still laser color printer. " Paul |
