Default remote assistance

Is it still in XP somewhere? I ask because:

When I have a remote computer execute the "Remote Assistance" program, the
remote computer gets the window, and then uses email to send the request to
me.

The email comes in with an attachment and a hyperlink in the body:

You can easily provide assistance from your computer by following the
instructions at:

http://windows.microsoft.com/RemoteAssistance/RA.asp

That link is bad, taking me to a web page that says, "Something didn't work
as planned." Real informative!

So, I launch the attachment which asks if I want to connect. I say yes.
Then I get an error msg window from Remote Assistance:
"A Remote Assistance connection could not be established because the DNS
name of the remote computer could not be resolved."

So how is one supposed to use Remote Assistance over the Internet with two
XP computers? Both of these computers are behind a broadband router using
NAT.

Thx.

Well, if I read that faq correctly, RA won't work across the Internet unless
both computers have public IP addresses.

it will work behind UPnP NAT devices like routers. see
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/usi...d/default.mspx and
run it on both ends.

Some non-MS email programs add a file extension name to the RA file name.
Outlook, Windows Mail and OE do not as far as I know. I would check for
that...
