Default "Error Code 7" prevents installing XP

A further note to my problem: The Intel processor is a
hyperthreading one, but I have turned this feature OFF in
case it was confusing the XP home installer. But with
Hyperthreading off I still get the error 7 message!!

I've just assembled a brand new computer utilizing an
Asus P4C800=E deluxe Motherboar with an Intel 2.6 P4.
When I try to install XP (Home) from my new OE disk it
begins the process then flashes the message "File\i386
\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
Setup cannot continue."
According to the Micrtosoft knowledghe base this is a
problem when upgrading from Windows 98 or ME -- but I'm
not! I'm trying to make an original clean installion of
XP from a new CD.
How do I get around this?
