Default Free -e-mail client(s) ?

Off-topic---I know ---

Since AOL was created, we have used AOL as our e-mail
service (it has always been free)
Now a new owner is making it into a monthly pay-for-service
busine ss.
So, it's time for me to go!
I'd like to remain a cheap-skate. So what is/are a/some
free e-mail client/s ?
Thanks.

Really? I guess you don't know the difference between an email client
and an email service. He wrote "client", not "service".

no she wrote client. ANY Commy Yahoo Aol Google is just a server.
Besides, if you understand what those communist have everyone doing of,
you would listen to what he said about evil microsoft. No such thing
as spam, and free, is everywhere even in clients also. I would only
use the old eudora client myself. It does not put your name on the
email headers as all others do, including aol. Control your email
header, or, anyone can find you. In using a online server for email, is
a big mistake. Most of it is running on microsoft. And in a rip off
internet world of hackers, its only wise to do what you can while you
are being cheap and controlled of. No such thing as spam. That's only
meat in a can.

Just look at how many factories closed since they made that bogus law
spam. 150,000 in the United States. It would be ever so dam foolish,
and dumb, to think, its not a big part of the problem. The FCC is
communist. Same as the UN and the EU....

Its not written that way in my US constitution. And its been disobeyed
of now for many many years by the now American communists. $$$ is why.

There's also Sylpheed and Fossamail.
Best if you use a client to download the mail so you can back
it up. Three of my webmail accounts simply disappeared and I lost
everything in them. Didn't use them for anything important though...
no big loss.

I also don't get whether you want a service
or software. It sounds like you mean a service.
Free generally means adware/spyware. If you
don't mind that then what does it matter? GMail.
Yahoo Outlook.com. Any crap webmail will serve.

If you do mind, I have a techie neice who likes
hushmail for privacy. I think it's free, but not
certain. I've never tried it myself. Most services,
though, require another email address in order to
get an address. They don't like anonymity. And
no-strings freebies are disappearing. I used to
keep a junk mail address at inbox.com. They wrote
last Fall to tell me they were dropping free accounts.

What about your ISP? Nearly all provide free
email. We get 4 from RCN.

You can also get your own domain and set up email
to your heart's content. But not completely free,
of course.

Finally, a search will easily turn up lists of things
like "top 10 free email providers". If you have a current
address to give them you should be OK with most.
If you don't mind not having POP3 service you'll
have a bigger selection to choose from.

It's only free if you use @hushmail.

I started to use GMX.co.uk/.com (depending on where you are) when I was
moving away from TalkTalk to DirectSave Telecom - some wrestling with
forwarding form the existing addresses to GMX. Also, as POP3 it sends me
everything multiple times, but it works.
I then discovered that DST uses TT's system - should have realised earlier
as it@s unbundeled and my exchange has only TT anyway - so the old addresses
still work.

I use Verizon and they are dropping email service by April 11th. You
have to migrate to AOL (owned by Verizon). They are making it easy if
you read the brochure, not sure if it will be. But they are moving
all mail, calendar, folders, and contacts for you.

But isn't that still free for a Verizon customer?
Still surprising, though. I've never heard of a
buyout where customers' email addresses didn't
get grandfathered in. In the case of AOL it seems
even worse. Verizon is not well liked, but at least
they're a normal company. AOL is famous for being
the company for people who never learned how
to use their computer.

Which may well explain the confusion about what is desired in this thread.
I recall a thread from several months ago initiated by the same OP and which
dealt with email. He never seemed to understand the differences between
email servers, ISPs and email clients.

well, I have managed OK through 2 versions of TRS80, all versions
of DOS and every version of Windows (ex: the few NT versions)
and I have nothing to do with the servers -- they're elsewhere.
But if it's unclear at all, I mean the software that's on my desk
and the service I get to use it.

I thought they were a company that made skeet shooting targets.

Each skeet shooting target says "200 hours free" on it.
