C:\users\owner
Hi everyone!
I recently changed my computer. On my last one (also Win 7), *if I remember correctly*, I had changed C:\users\owner to C:\users\marcel. If in fact I did, I can't remember how I did it, cause now, it seems I can't. Is it possible? How please? Thanks, Marcel |

On your current PC, it may have been set up with the current user as Owner, which is the most common way a new PC is done. You can change your current name in Control Panel if you so desire. Go to User Accounts and click on "Change your account name." I believe you'll have to be an administrator to do so. Once that's done, the Owner folder should then be renamed Marcel (if that's the new name you use) -- SC Tom -There's no such thing as TMI when asking for tech support. |

Thanks, Marcel You can change the "owner" username alias to Marcel, but the original filesystem structure will remain as "owner". The only way to create a username of Marcel, with a folder named Marcel is to create a new user with those properties. You can then get rid of the "owner" user afterwards, provided that you provide Marcel with the same Administrative permissions. Yousuf Khan |

Once that's done, the Owner folder should then be renamed Marcel (if that's the new name you use) Just for information: it is strange but it does not work quite like that. Once you have set up a user, the folder retains the original name, even if you change the userame. I am afraid that I have never deleted a user other than a mere 'pretend' one for practice when I first got the system, so I can't tell you for certain what happens if you delete user 'owner' and start a new one - it mght be quite drastic and it is certain that you won't be able to foretell what will happen unless you are advised by a very trusted expert who has done it. But no harm at all will be done if you just alter user 'owner' to 'marcel and leave the folders as they are. Notice that on the startup/login screen the various users will retain their original order even if the names are changed and you select an option to have them in alphabetic order. So if you change username Z to username A and choose alphabetic order for the login screen, user A will still be on the right hand side. |

I created a new user and changed the name, and sure enough, the user's folder name remained the same as the original name. Huh! Go figure! I thought that was how we did it years ago (probably in NT3.5 or 4.0) but I guess it didn't work that way either, or it has changed with Windows 7. In order to change owner to Marcel you need to copy owner to marcel
you do this by signing in as 3rd party user and creating the new Marcel account reboot sign in again as 3rd party user right click Computer/properties/advanced system settings/user profiles/settings from there copy user "owner" to User Marcel...you need to point it to Marcel reboot and sign in as Marcel and it all should be there. You could now delete user "owner" peter If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate or disruptive, please ignore it. If you dont know how to ignore a posting complain to me and I will be only too happy to demonstrate :-) "celcius" wrote in message ... Hi everyone! I recently changed my computer. You could now delete user "owner" peter I agree. This is probably the best way to do it. Microsoft has published a KB article with this procedure outlined... "How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XP" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555473 You just have to "pretend" that the owner account is corrupted. Everything else is just as described. -- John |
