Had it with file explorer
No indication of a bad HDD.
Even if non-indexed areas, File Explorer should NOT keep me from other areas. File Explorer is POORLY written !!!! JUNK ! M$ should be ashamed of itself. Other Explorer apps have zero trouble getting me to the file system. |

There is nothing wrong with indexer so there is no need to waste time trying to fix something that is already working well for most intelligent people. Is there a FREE replacement out there for the always "Working On It" File Explorer? What junk ! I cannot get anything done ! How many disk drives are on the computer ? Are any of the drives imported from an old computer ? Where are you looking when you get the green throbber in File Explorer ? What directory or folder are you visiting ? You can boot an installer DVD, and enter the Command Prompt from there, and do CHKDSK on the partitions. What I would recommend, is adding a text file (if you can) to the top level of a partition. For example, my Win10 partition would have C:\IMWIN10.txt . Then, when I'm in the command prompt, and I try " dir someletter ", it allows me to verify I actually am using the correct letter for the job. Then I can do "chkdsk someletter /f" or whatever. When you boot to the Command Prompt, from the installer DVD for Win10, the DVD is X:\, so your actual C: drive could be something else. It might be C: , or, it might not. There is no requirement for a Command Prompt, to use the same letters as the regular OS does. Only a few applications go to the trouble of "sniffing" the mountvol registry keys, to get the letters right. Paul |

Laptop.
One drive. I get green when I first open File Explorer. I m now exploring other explorers. Got to be one that is free and easy. Sort of the flower child of explorers. So far a few Explorers, that is, I have tried opened and displayed all immediately. M$ sure knows how to screw things up! Will try ChkDsk again in a bit. |
