A saved search (*.FND) - fails to remember the folder :-(

Apd, This is my drop-down list from "Look in:" I've only got drives (hardisk & DVD) under "my computer" there. Something must have changed on your system to prevent the documents folders from being listed there. Probably a registry tweak. Bottom line, if I want to create a repeatable search I might be better of with letting AutoIt fill in everything (and it can even start the search -) ) ... Sound like a plan. In case it's of use, these registry entries are written when a search is done: Advanced options: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SearchSystemDirs HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SearchHidden HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\IncludeSubFolders HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\CaseSensitive HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SearchSlowFiles (SearchSlowFiles corresponds to "Search tape backup") File mask: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5603\000 (to 024) Search string: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant\ACMru\5604\000 (to 024) |

A saved search (*.FND) - fails to remember the folder :-(
Apd,
Something must have changed on your system to prevent the documents folders from being listed there. Probably a registry tweak. Most likely. Over time I've made a number of registry tweaks, among others, to get my machine show itself as a single-user one. And that probably included removing certain folders from all places but one. In case it's of use, these registry entries are written when a search is done: [Snip] Thanks for those. I would not even have thought of checking the registry, as all settings are forgotten the next time you open a search (and the search-saving puts, or /should/ put them all in a file). A saved search (*.FND) - fails to remember the folder :-(
Apd,
In case it's of use, these registry entries are written when a \ search is done: Advanced options: By the way, do you have a "NoFileFolderConnection" (set to 1) in there ? If not its a good idea to add it. By default deleting a folder named "xxx_files" (created when saving a full webpage to disk) will also delete the "xxx.htm" file itself. I've been bitten by that a few times myself. :-( Regards, Rudy Wieser |

A saved search (*.FND) - fails to remember the folder :-(
Apd,
Advanced options: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SearchSystemDirs HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SearchHidden HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\IncludeSubFolders HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\CaseSensitive HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SearchSlowFiles Sigh .... Changing the above settings does actually change the defaults as displayed when you start a new search. The only problem is that the "Advanced Options" group stays unticked, and they are thus ignored until you open that group by hand. What a mess ... Regards, Rudy Wieser |

Apd, Advanced options: By the way, do you have a "NoFileFolderConnection" (set to 1) in there ? No but thanks for the tip. TweakUI can change that "connected files" setting. If not its a good idea to add it. By default deleting a folder named "xxx_files" (created when saving a full webpage to disk) will also delete the "xxx.htm" file itself. I've been bitten by that a few times myself. Me too, once! I rarely save complete pages like that but when I do I rename the html file. I think a warning is given that it will break the connection. |

It leaves them alone when a saved search is done with different settings. The only problem is that the "Advanced Options" group stays unticked, and they are thus ignored until you open that group by hand. What a mess ... I find that they stay as set and are not ignored with a new search when not expanded. The expanded states and other options like "date" are not saved. |

A saved search (*.FND) - fails to remember the folder :-(
Apd,
I rarely save complete pages like that but when I do I rename the html file. I normally save the webpage under the name I want it to have, scrub the page itself (removing all header, footer and other cruft) and rename all images with the basename of the HTML file and a sequence number (so that they can be placed in the same folder as the html file itself), after which I delete the _files directory. I still come across images without the html file they where origionally referenced from :-( Though mostly I just save a DOM copy (meaning: exactly what I see, already filtered by a few "no crap please" extensions) of just the HTML contents.
