Seeking an app for automatic photography.
Win10. SurfacePro4, Olympus E5.
I need an off-the-shelf app to allow the tethered camera to take a picture whenever these's a movement on the screen-as-viewfinder. |

I need an off-the-shelf app to allow the tethered camera to take a picture whenever these's a movement on the screen-as-viewfinder. http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/..._Manual_EN.pdf Page 110 - "Olympus Studio 2" tethered via USB Link to Studio 2 software, as well as license key. https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/54448558 "For Windows Download from: http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/...dioWindows.zip Use license key: 0202 1000 2628 0855 7309 " Now, I couldn't find a manual for Studio 2. I did find this article. I don't see the viewfinder presented on the PC screen. http://www.lmscope.com/produkt22/OLY...kopie_en.shtml It suggests to preview the picture, you'd make a connection to the HDMI 1080i output. To obtain a "live view". This can convert HDMI via a USB3 connection. But the reviews for the BlackMagic USB based Shuttle are terrible. The Surface Pro 4 likely has a "real" USB3 port, so it will pass the "bandwidth test" the software for this product uses. On the PCI Express card version of the Shuttle, there is an FPGA doing MJPEG compression (to reduce bandwidth). It's not clear whether the Shuttle does that too or not. And right now on Newegg, I'm not seeing a competitor for this thing. There really should be more products like this one. I picked USB3 because that's likely all the Surface Pro 4 has to offer. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...9SIA4P01ZS3049 Then, the capture box would need to "come in" on a known software interface like WIA, so that something like "surveillance software" can detect movement. It's probably easier to just plug in a webcam that comes with surveillance software. Then, you still need some way to cobble the action of that webcam (shooting a photo), to getting the E5 to shoot a photo with a slight delay. Cheap point and shoot cameras can have AOI (area of interest) capabilities. If the camera has its own image processor, it's easier to add features in there, than cobble them together externally. The $150 Point and Shoot I bought, would not have the low light capabilities of your camera, but the CPU inside the thing is nothing short of amazing. (It does feature detection in the image in real time.) If the Olympus software had shown a Viewfinder image in their software, then I would just punt you elsewhere. As when materials are present to build on, someone can craft software for it. If there isn't a display of capability somehow (no "Viewfinder" over USB), to prove there is a path, then the solution is going to be a lot worse. While the HDMI output of the camera is probably beautiful and crisp, you still need a way to capture it. There are a lot more PCI Express cards for this, than USB3 solutions (at the moment). Paul |
