Remove System Folder
XP Pro SP3 Thinkpad
There is a folder listed under My Computer 'Single File Restore' that contains two obsolete backup files created by the IBM-supplied utility, 'Rapid Restore Ultra'. Since I now use Marcium Reflect to backup my system, I would like to get rid of this folder and these files. Normally, one would use Rapid Restore Ultra to remove these files, however, for whatever reason, I can not launch RRU. I thought an uninstall/reinstall would solve that problem, but RRU does not show in the Add/Remove Programs list. Tried to install Lenovo's TVR&R upgrade, hoping it could manage the RRU backup files, thus allowing me to remove them, but the install stopped with a screen informing me that RRU was installed, it had to be removed. I have searched this computer from top to bottom and can not find hide nor hair of RRU. So, I now have multiple problems: 1. How do I find and launch, or uninstall, RRU? If I can launch it, it should be able to remove those two backup files. If I can't launch it, I need to uninstall it so I can install the Lenovo R&R to give it a try at removing those files. 2. If the Lenovo option fails, how do I get rid of that folder? The folder is listed as a System folder, so right clicking doesn't give me any actionable options, like Delete or Cut, and there is no Properties button. Tried CMD prompt, but that takes me to C:, but in the Windows Explorer tree, this folder is not listed under C:, it is listed under My Computer, so I couldn't find the folder. (Not a proficient DOS user) I should note, there was a hidden Service partition on this computer where IBM stashed Access IBM and other obsolete diagnostic stuff. I was told the RRU-created backup files were stored in this Service partition, that if I eliminated it, the files would be deleted. I said 'was', because I deleted that partition and expanded the System C: partition to use the unallocated space. However, that did not delete those files. Any ideas, questions, help? Thanks for giving this some thought. |
