Default "Search Desktop" go away!

Well, I grabbed some Windows Updates and now have an insidious little box on
my Taskbar labeled Search Desktop, and I can't find where to turn it off. I
went into msconfig and unchecked Startup for Windows Search, but the little
box is still there. I can't find anything running under Task Manager that
looks suspicious; what can I do to regain my Taskbar space? Thanks in
advance!

Did you check in Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs for an entry named
Windows Desktop Search? Uninstall it if it's there.

Good luck

Right click on the taskbar & choose toolbars, there should be an entry for
Windows Search Deskbar, remove the tick & it'll get rid of the box.

HTH,
Edna.

Thank YOU, Edna,

Now why didn't I think of that? Works like a charm. I prefer this to
uninstalling the utility; who knows, it might come in handy someday.

If it isn't in add/remove programs, How do I get rid of it. I don't just
want to delete the icon, I want to get rid of the program.
A friend said to reinstall it, it will appear in teh Add/remove programs
list, then delete it. I found the update that installed it but don't know
how to run it.
HELP!

4th and 2, oh God!

Version 3 did not show up in Add/Remove, version 4 does (or is
supposed to).

Make sure Show updates is checked in Add/Remove and look for it.

Either way, it is still just KB940157 and every installed KB should
have an uninstall to go with it, so click Start, Run and in the box
enter:

%systemroot%\$NtUninstallKB940157$\spuninst\spunin st.exe

Click OK and the uninstall will run for KB940157.

Or, navigate to the folder and double click the spuninst.exe to launch
it.

This is what happens when you click Remove from Add/Remove programs
anyway...
