Default Browser/WLM Causing Lockups?

Windows 7, Home Premium, SP1

One of my browsers (IE 11, FFOx 49.0.2,and Opera 41.0) has been causing
me problems. I haven't been able to recreate the issue on a consistent
basis. It may also involve my Windows Live Mail 2011. So far, whenever
I have WLM open, and I'm cruising in one of the above browsers,
sometimes I'll get the spinning circle in the browser, and if I move my
mouse to any other app, or a program on the start menu, the spinning
stops, but when I click on the app or other program, nothing happens.
If I go back to the browser, the spinning is still happening.

Sometimes I'll be composing an email in WLM, with browser(s) open, WLM
will exhibit the same problem.

If I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to the Task Manager, nothing happens
either. I'm stuck and can't do anything on the pc. The only thing I
can do is press and hold the power button to shut down, and start again,
and lose everything I've been working on. It's happened 5 times or more
in the last week.

I've looked at the event log, but I'm not good at interpreting that.

So, yesterday I did a System Restore back to around November 2, (which I
really didn't want to do). It's only been a day, and so far, no
problems, but maybe I haven't recreated the necessary conditions to
spark this problem again.

Anyone ever see this behavior?

TIA

Here's the Event Log for Critical Events over the last 7 days:

See the "sulk mode" thread: we've got something _similar_. We haven't
been able to pin down what causes it (not WLM as we don't use that - for
email we use an ancient S/W called Eudora). When "sulk mode" cuts in, we
can move the mouse cursor, and select desktop icons (they highlight),
and activate them (double-click or click and enter), at which point the
"open prog." sound plays, but the application doesn't start. And we
can't start Task Manager (e. g. by right-clicking an empty part of the
taskbar: the little menu sometimes pops up, but selecting task manager
doesn't do anything). We too have to power-off to restart the PC.

Sorry not to be able to help, but you did ask if anyone'd seen such
behaviour (-:!

Yes, I found your Windows 7 Sulk Mode, and yes, it is just what I am seeing
here.

I remember Eudora. It was my first corporate email program.
