Default javascript

Have now loaded java plugin but scripts still don't
work. Any other ideas please?

Robin,
Sounds to me like you probably need the entire Java Virtual Machine (the
whole thing, not a plugin). Both Microsofts Version plus Sun's Version are
available he For the Microsoft versions:
http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.html

For the Sun version:
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html
Take one or the other and see if your problem is resolved.
