Need help for Administrator account problem for XP !
"pg" wrote in message ... My HD conked, I installed a new HD and re-installed the XP, and got the MS-update successfully And I proceeded to install the programs and such, everything successfully Then I realized that I was doing all that under the Administrator account, so I created another account ---- that's when the problem starts I tried to create a user account, but the system insisted that I need to create an Administrator account To me that does not make sense, since I am already log on to an account with "Administrator" name and with Administrator access, but since the system insisted, I created another account, with account name ABC, with administrator access And then I reboot ---- how here's the trouble --- I can't get back to my "Administrator" account no more, instead, I am stuck with the ABC account, with administrator access Which means, ALL the programs I set up under the "Administrator" account is GONE, everything GONE !! I went to "User Accounts" under "Control Panel", and tried to set up another account with the name of "Administrator", the system informs me that there is already an account with "Administrator" so I can't use "Administrator" as the name Which means, there is an "Administrator" account hidden somewhere but I can't access it from my current ABC account (even with the administrator access) !! First: at least one account that you create (other than the built in administrator account) must be an administrator account. Once such an account is created, the built in administrator account no longer appears on the welcome screen (as you discovered). To access the built in administrator account, the procedure differs between XP Home and Pro. For XP Home, boot into safe mode. All administrator accounts are shown on the Welcome screen (including the built in account) For XP Pro, press Ctrl-Alt-Del on the Welcome screen. This takes you to the classic log on screen. Just enter 'Administrator' as the account name and its password (blank by default unless you have changed it). |
