I am lost!! HELP!
I need to reformat the c: drive on my computer. A friend once showed me how
to do this, and I have long since forgot. I know there is something I need to do while the computer is booting up before Windows starts up, but I can't remember for the life of me. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!! |

Take it to a repair place to get this done. There is far far far more to this subject than merely getting the computer to boot from the CD. Jim |

Where do you get this idea from. The bits you can remember - forget them. It is very rare that you have to format a drive unless you have been meddeling with the contents and not made a note of what you have done. Get your friend to do it for you or your computer will probably not work again for months :-) To avoid grizzlies, the Alaska Department of Fish & Game advises hikers to wear noisy little bells on clothes and carry pepper spray, also watch for signs of activity: Black bear scat is smaller and contains berries; grizzly scat has little bells in it and smells like pepper. |

I assume you mean reformat and reinstall Windows. How do you know you need to do this? It is *very* seldom true that this is required. Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted, then create a new one). You can find detailed instructions he http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html or here http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how...windows_xp.htm or here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/XPClean.htm or here http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/clean_install.htm -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

Why do you think you need to format the C drive? Is all data from that drive backed up? All of it will be lost if you proceed with formatting. HTH -pk |
