Unable to copy shared files
Below is a discussion that I had on the Windows media
player forum on the above referenced subject, wherein it was determined that I had a file sharing issue. Mr. C: I have configured peer-to-peer networking between two computers in our home where we successfully share files. Computer "A" has been designated as ripping and maintaining the music library, which has been shared. The very first time that we ripped music to our music library on computer "A" I was able to copy all of the music folders and songs into "my music" on Computer "B". Everything worked as you would expect. Since that very first-time, we have ripped new music to the music library on computer "A". All subsequent attempts to copy any of the folders or music onto computer "B" Windows returns an error that "access is denied". If I copy the new folders and files on computer "A" back onto computer "A" and delete the original folders and files, Windows will allow me to copy them successfully. Any new music that is ripped to the music library on computer "A", windows will once again return an error that "access is denied" when attempting to copy. Please advise. Mr. D: Sounds like that during file copy read-only permissions are being set on those files and/or directories. Does this happen for directories without music in them? Mr. C: All of the folders on computer "A" have the read only attrubute checked, not just the music folders. I have not set permissions for sharing on any other folders on that computer. Mr. D: Cool - then do the copied-to directories on Computer B have the read-only attribute checked? Mr. C: yes, all of the copy music and computer being have the read-only attribute checked. Mr. D: This sounds like it has nothing to do with the media player and everything to do with file sharing. =\ Mr. C: Perhaps I should take my question to the Windows XP forum. Thank you for your help. |
