WIN XP Pro System failures after attempted SP2 installation
I installed Win XP Pro on a new hard drive, and it went perfectly. I began
the installation of all my other programs and applications, and it went flawlessly, except for the hardware with old drivers (incompatible). I also added the Fax Component to my computer and it worked properly, I think. At about this juncture, I received my cd of the sp2 for installation, and immediately began that installation. About half way through, it failed, and I tried to "uninstall" the sp2 installation that was underway, and it failed, which led to a system crash caused by the application C:\WINDOWS\System32\MsiExec.exe... The exception generated was 80000007 at address 00000000 (). The computer would only attempt to start and then immediately shut down. After getting help to get the system back to where it would start up, I could not add the fax component to my computer, and I am sure that there are other components that do not work, and cannot be added as well, like the Microsoft Firewall that comes with XP Pro. How can I get back to the original installation without formating the HD and starting all over? Thanks for any assistance that might come my way. -- CDLBill |

WIN XP Pro System failures after attempted SP2 installation
My inclination would be to try SP2 update from Microsoft's site
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...xp/choose.aspx and if that fails start over and load SP2 immediately after XP install. Microsoft Firewall is installed with SP2 so if that fails you won't have it. "Bill" wrote in message ... I installed Win XP Pro on a new hard drive, and it went perfectly.
