WinXP and Netscape - help required please?
G'day
When I was online on Sunday, Netscape Mail & Newsgroups locked up, this didn't bother me too much at the time because I had read all I needed for that day and was about to go offline anyway. When I was shutting down there was a Sync .dll error message on the desktop that I've never seen previously and my notebook was in the process of shutting down. I didn't think too much about all of this until yesterday (Mon) when I tried to dial-in and couldn't open Netscape (browser or mail), got both to open later but found that I have lost 'all' my Netscape settings, immediately I did a full system antivirus scan which was clear, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what has happened? Because I've only been using XP for a few months and remember reading about restoring to a previous date when everything was OK......is this what I should try?? or is there a better way?? I've got Netscape back up now, but without mail accounts, newsgroups, settings, etc and it will be a slow process to get them all set to how I had it before this problem. When I changed to this current notebook with XP it was a simple matter of having the two notebooks side-by-side but I don't have that luxury this time around and trying to save myself lots of hours getting Netscape back to my preferences. Any suggestions would be most appreciated......Thanks in advance HC ;-) |

Did you try an anti-spyware program such as adaware? Are
you using SP2? Did you install anything during that computer session that may have caused problems with Netscape? Thanks!! Have done an anti-spyware scan, nothing found. I didn't
install anything at the time the problem occurred but I was attempting to download drivers from ibm.com, without success. Do you think that had something to do with it because I still need to d/l those drivers? The drivers weren't for this notebook I'm currenty using but another older IBM in which I am wanting to use a USBPCMCIA so I can connect an external HDD, but the PCMCIA slot won't recognise the USB card, that's why I was attempting to get more recent drivers. That machine is using Win98SE, if that makes a difference. Thanks HC ;-) xfiler wrote: Did you try an anti-spyware program such as adaware? Are you using SP2? I wouldn't think that downloading the drivers would hurt
anything, unless instead of save, you hit "run" to begin the download - that might have caused the problem. However, .dll would be a driver - have you had this problem since? xfiler -----Original Message----- Thanks!! Have done an anti-spyware scan, nothing found. G'day xfiler
The download didn't even start, therefore I didn't get to 'Save'. Haven't had the problem since, but I still can't send emails. Just thought if I knew what caused the problem it could be avoided in the future. Thanks for your help. Have you tried another e-mail client? Or is this not an
option due to your ISP setup? xfiler -----Original Message----- G'day xfiler The download didn't even start, therefore I didn't get to 'Save'. G'day
I can send emails via Outlook Express, fortunately it was loaded on this machine when I bought it although I've never used it until now. I can receive emails and newsgroups in Netscape, but when I try to send emails Netscape locks up. I phoned the ISP today after emailing their online helpdesk....and the guy on the phone helpdesk said they don't do email support now. The email from helpdesk only gave SMTP settings as I have them. In outgoing mail settings there is only the Username, Port # and server......they are all correct, that's why I'm at a loss to know what it causing the prob. Do you think if I downloaded Netscape and overwrite the existing version that would help? It's probably something simple, but it's very frustrating....LOL Thanks again HC ;-) xfiler wrote: Have you tried another e-mail client?
