Default MSN Messenger 7.5 - Volume falls to zero

I have a strange problem with MSN Messenger 7.5

The volume slider of the other side party falls to zero all the time,
switching off the sound. The other party can hear me, and as I pull up their
volume slider, I can hear them too. However, as soon as I let go of their
volume slider, it pulls itself down to zero again.

What's wrong?
