Default sound problems in msn messenger

when having a video conversation the sound is verry scatsy and there are also
long delays. when trying a voice coversation there is no sound at all, but
when sending a voice clip it is clear as a bell, but with long delays. Is
there a way to fix those problems?
Can anybody help?
