cannot receive certain files
Hi there!
I'm using messenger, and when a friend of mine tries to send me some mp3 songs, i get a pop-up message saying windows sp2 has detected that this file might be harmful and has blocked access. however, i can't find this file anywhere on my HD. it has a .mp3 extension i've researched a tad into this, and it turns out its most likely the windows sp2 attachment manager that is tagging this file as potentially harmful. what I don't understand is why it deletes the file? i am supposed to be able to right click on the file and set UNBLOCK, but the file dissapears from My Received Files folder .. I haven't found an easy to understand way how to make attachment manager accept .MP3 files using messenger! I haven't had any problems receiving other file types using messenger, nor have i had problems receiving mp3 files by email either! any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks mike |

Greetings Mike,
To fix this, download and run the following .reg file: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/extfix.reg You'll need to restart Messenger to see the change. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2006 Jonathan Kay.
