Max Bandwidth?
Hello,
Does anyone know what the maximum video bandwidth requirements are for Windows and Office Messenger? I would like to set up my office with video conferencing but I want to make sure I have the maximum amount of bandwidth reserved for it. Thanks! |

Max Bandwidth?
Greetings,
Actually it's designed to accommodate whatever bandwidth is available from narrowband speeds all the way to ~100Kbps (or similar, I don't actually know for a fact what Office Communicator is doing). Even the standard 10Mbps local network should be fine and unless your network has some high bandwidth applications going on, I would expect you wouldn't even notice Messenger video occurring. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2006 Jonathan Kay. 1mbps will be enough for video+audio with very good resolution ( with
good codec of course , like wm9 ). -- Pavel Sokolov Instant Messaging for Office http://www.cezeo.com |

Hi,
Office Communicator doesn't use WM9 has a codec. It uses the RTC APIs just like Messenger does. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2006 Jonathan Kay. Hi,
Yes. Windows Media 9 codecs aren't fast enough on today's hardware. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Live Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2006 Jonathan Kay.
