Default Uploading videos to You Tube

I just became a member of You Tube and am having problems. They say their limit is 100MB and 10 minutes for videos uploaded. I used to host a TV show and have my shows on VHS. I have Power Cinema software that takes a video capture from a VCR and it works fine, except it creates .MPG files that are huge, like 710MB for 10 minutes. I tried to upload a one minute clip that is 49MB to You Tube and after waiting almost 4 hours for it to upload, I gave up. It's supposed to take 1-5 minutes per MB for cable broadband, but I just have dialup. I can't get broadband because I live in an apartment and can't have new holes put in walls I don't own (my computer has to be in my bedroom, there's no room in my living room with the regular cable and TV). I have the feeling my video files are bigger than they need to be or should be for some reason. Is there a way to bring them down in MB so I can do more with them? Can I convert them somehow? Under File or Edit, there is no "export" option. Thanks.

Try a trial version of PowerDirector and see if it's Upload to YouTube
facility meets with your approval.
