Default ati radeon mobility x600 in HP zd8000; what are your problems?

ATI doesn't support this card in my HP notebook other than say to go to the
HP site to get latest driver, which I have:

http://tinyurl.com/mez44

Now I get game crashes. They are not constant, but they sure are annoying
even if they happen only a two or three times a night. I also seem to have
some kind of cache problem now, because when the new sounds in any game
first comes on (like a gun or rocket being shot for the first time or the
game character talking for the first time) I get a complete skip in the
game. What I mean by "skip" is that it is almost like a pause in the game
play and it only happens when a sound is played the first time. For the rest
of the game, if the same sound is played again, there is no problem. So it
makes me think it is some kind of cache problem. However, this also only
happens when I play the online multiplayer games.

I can't use the default driver that came with XP because the display won't
set at its best resolution and the screen does not scroll smoothly.

Any ideas? What problems have any of you had with this card and your
computer or gaming?

So is it a display problem or a game problem?
Is your display causing any problems in something other than this game?
Is it just one game, or several? (which game(s)?)

If you have a problem that only uccurs in online multiplayer gaming, it
could be a number of things from issues in your local PC, to issues with the
game server or your ISP connection, to issues synchronizing you with other
players possibly due to their local hardware or their ISP connection.
Pauses may just be your PC or internet connection running faster than other
players and waiting for them to catch up.

I did read in the HP updates to the video driver that the very last update
was to fix a "sound synchronization" problem. I am assuming it was not
completely fixed.

Just to update this thread. . . . I have installed my games on my desktop
that has a geforce 6600 video card and sound blaster audigy sound card. The
games run fine without any problem at all. So I don't think my problems are
internet connection problems.
