Default Status changing automatically, what?

Hello from Finland! I am sorry if I am using wrong terms about the
status names in the following question, but I am using a Finnish
version of Windows Messenger so the terms are re-translated by my own.

I am using Windows Messenger 5.1. Sometimes, without any visible
reason, the online-status will automatically change to "busy" without
changing it manually. I have noticed that this is somehow dependent on
the checkbox telling Messenger to mark the user as being "away" if the
computer (or the Messenger) has not been used for a time announced in
the edit field besides the checkbox. If the checkbox is unchecked,
then this changing of the status to "busy" will not happen
automatically, the status will remain as it is set by the user all the
time. Sometimes this unexpected change of status to "busy" has caused
that some messages from other Messenger users will pass by when I am
not hearing the message sound and I will not get to the computer and
check if there are any messages waiting for some reaction from my
side. And when i finally find the messages by accident, of course then
the user that sent me the message(s) is offline or not able to answer
for some reason.

How will this mechanism of changing the status automatically to "busy"
work, and how can I prevent the status to be changed without
unchecking the checkbox about marking me as being "away" after a
certain time?
