Default Coloured dots appearing when attempting to capture

Using Windows Movie Maker, capturing video with IEEE1394 Firewire Cable from
Panasonic NV-DS50 to my laptop. While using the Movie Maker Wizard and
selecting the recommended section for quality, the captured video & sound is
distored, coloured dots appearing on the whole video. What can I do?
