Windows Media Player is not an
editor.

You can do it with Movie Maker if
it is in the .wmv or .avi format.

Open the clip in Windows Movie
Maker...drag it to the timeline...and
go to...Video Effects / Rotate.

Drag the correct effect (Rotate 90)
and drop it on the clip.

To save as .avi...try the following steps:

File / Save Movie File / My Computer / Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location / Next /
Show More Choices / Other Settings / open
the drop window and choose...DV-AVI / Next /
wait while the movie is saved / Finish.
