Default Changing default icon for folder shortcuts

Hi,
I'd like to change the default icon for shortcuts to folders. I have thus
far been doing each one manually and would like to automate it. I have
perused the file types dialog and don't see an entry for shortcuts to
folders, yet when you create a shortcut to one, it creates a folder icon with
the shortcut indicator on it.
How do I do that?
Thanks!
Sue

Sue, do a google search for WinXP Themes. If you have a theme selected it
will usually cover folder shortcuts. There are
many, many out there both free and shareware.

If it's a simple shortcut to a folder then you can just right click it-go to
properties and choose Change Icon

Good Luck, Ayush.

Default Changing default icon for folder shortcuts

Hi Rich,
I'm using the built in XP Silver theme, and I want to change the default
icon to one provided in Win XP, but different from it's default. In the
folders area, there isn't a shortcut folder image provided, only the regular
image, so I don't see something there to change. That's the issue. Sorry if
I wasn't clear.

Thanks Ayush,
yes, that is how I am doing it, but I'd like it to default to that image so
I don't have to change every shortcut...

To change the default shortcut icon, you have to change the icon of folders:
Open Regedit,
Go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell
Icons],
Create a new value and name it "3" (without quotes)
Double click it and enter the path of icon.

Good Luck, Ayush.
