Hi,
I don't feel comfortable making changes to the Registry. Thank you! I think
you understand what my problem is. I cause a lot of my own problems, because
I think you should be able to move a program from one drive to another. I
also moved Nero 7 and Easy Creator 9 over to my "I" drive and I'm getting
errors in the event viewer from them. I have Norton Utilities 2002 that I use
the auto repair problems. It may not correct problem to the best solutions
automatically all the time.
Someone told me I should keep all my programs on the same drive with my
operating system for the best performance. But I hate to do that incase I
have to reinstall the operating system.

I really appreciate you taking the time and sticking with me on this! I will
try uninstalling "Picture It" and maybe I should just reinstall it on my "C"
drive.

Thanks again,
Barb

If one wishes independence from how and where programs are installed by
default along with locations of their files, work product, etc., then
one must exercise such independence. This can be achieved by performing
custom installations along with setting up one's own destinations for
the applications (viz., one's own target destinations or folders) that
are outside of the boundaries of MyDocuments in the root drive by re-
configuring the property boxes for these applications. Ultimately, the
applications' program files and data files goes where the user wants
them instead of where the applications programmer is telling the user
where they should be. There are so many different ways of doing things
and one should follow the dictates of what one really prefers.

Hi Barb,

I understand about not playing around in the Registry if you don't feel
comfortable. Anyway sorry we couldn't get this solved, but we sure gave it a
good shot eh? If you uninstall and reinstall and that fixes the problem,
please let me know.

Hi Barb,

Sorry about getting the J and I mixed up, but you knew what to do in any
case. Well I can only imagine it's lots of Registry entries that's got
this
thing all messed up. By installing it again on your C: drive there's no
telling what has changed.

If this problem was on my machine, I'd uninstall the program and reboot
my
system. I would Create a Restore Point then I'd go into the Registry and
do
a search for "PictureIt" and remove everything I found. I would then
reinstall the program on the "I" drive and see if that cured it. Now
remember, I said this is what I would do. It's up to you if you feel
comfortable in doing this. I've been changing things in the Registry for
the
last 12 years, so I'm comfortable in what I'm doing,

SG,
I did that exactly like you said except the program is on my "I" drive
instead of "J" with my pictures. I checked "Always use the selected
program
to open this kind of file"
I still get the same error message on every picture I try to open.

Hi Barb,

OK lets try this as it appears to me by installing "Microsoft Picture
It
2001" on the C: drive as well, you changed the path when you right
click
a
file and choose Open With, Even though you uninstalled it the path
must
still be there because of the error you are getting.

Open Windows Explorer and go to your pictures on your "J" drive. Right
click
one of them and select Open With then select Choose Program. Select
the
Browse button then find the folder you install "Microsoft Picture It
2001"
in on your "J" drive, Find the EXE file and select it and click OK.
Next
select the " Always use the selected program to open this kind of
file"
only
if you want to double click these files. If you just want to right
click
and
select Open With do not check the box.

SG,
1)Correct.
2)The .JPG opens fine from Microsoft Picture it program.

Thanks,
Barb

You do have "Microsoft Picture It 2001" installed on the "I" drive
and
you
also installed on the "C:" drive then you uninstalled it from your
"C:"
drive, correct?

OK, what happens if you open "Microsoft Picture It 2001" and click
File
Open, then point it to your :"J" drive where all your pictures are
stored?

Most programs will remember the last folder you point to and the
next
time
you click File Open, it will default to that folder.

SG

Hi,
I store my pictures on my "J" drive. I do not store anything on my
"C"
drive. I try to have all my applications on my "I" drive except
Windows
XP.
Microsoft Picture It application is on my "I" drive. I had a
duplicate
program loaded on my "C" drive but I deleted it. Could that be the
problem?

When I say "Picture It" I mean "Microsoft Picture It 2001"

Hi Barb,

OK lets se now, you are saying the 8-12-2006.JPG can be opened
with
Picture
It without problem and what you stated that picture is located in
the
"C:\Documents and Settings\Barb\My Documents\My Pictures" folder.

On another post you said you checked that folder and nothing is
in
there but
Adobe and a desktop.ini, so how can Picture It open a file in a
folder
that
doesn't not exist?

I know this is all confusing but hang in there and hopefully we
will
get it
sorted out.

You also say Picture It can open the file, but Microsoft Picture
It
2001
can't, but you think there is a problem with the path to Picture
It.
If
Picture It opens the file and Microsoft Picture It 2001 can't,
then
there is
a problem with Microsoft Picture It 2001 not Picture It.

SG

SG,
I get the error "C:\Documents and Settings\Barb\My Documents\My
Pictures\8-12-2006.JPG does not exist" or "C:\Documents and
Settings\Barb\My Documents\My Pictures\8-12-2006.JPG cannot be
opened"
when I
try to open pictures with Microsoft Picture It 2001. But I'm
able
to
open
the same .JPG file when I open the Picture It program 1st.
That's
why
I
think
there is a problem with the path to Picture It.
Thanks,
Barb

Hi Barb,

Well I guess I've missed something in one of these threads.

What is the exact error message you are getting?

SG,
I do have Picture It as one of my choices in Open With. But
when I
select
it
I get that error.

Hi Barb,

OK I think I understand better now what you are trying to
do.

Let try this.....
Do a search for any jpg file, doesn't matter where it's
at.
Once
found
right click it and select Open With. If you do not see
"Picture
It"
listed
in the context menu then select the "Choose Program"
button.
Do
you
see
"Picture It" listed anywhere there? and if you do select
it
then
also
check
the box at the bottom to "Always use the selected program
to
open
this
kind
of file".

All the best,
SG

SG,
I'm sorry I sent to soon before without answering all
your
questions.

!st I was trying to find the folder C:\Documents and
Settings\Barb\My
Documents/My Pictures\8-12-2006.JPG or a Picture It
folder
in
that
file,
but
I guess the folder doesn't matter because the other photo
programs I
have
are
not there and they work fine.

I got off on a different subject with the driver
cdudf_xp,
because
one
of
your people asked me about errors I was getting in the
event
viewer.
I'm
still getting that error, but I guess it's associated
with
Easy
Creator
7
and
I Have Roxio Easy Creator 9.

The main reason for my writing is I wanted to be able to
use
Picture
It
was
my default program for pictures. It has always worked in
the
past,
but
I
did
something to mess it up. Right now they open with Windows
picture
and
fax
viewer.
I also have Nero 7 and Easy Media Creator 9.

Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Barb,

Let start over here if we may.....

In one message you said.......
"I get the error when I try to open pictures with
Microsoft
Picture
It
2001"

What Error are you getting?

In another message you said..........
"Please help me locate this file."

What file are you looking for?

Another message you said.......
I located the driver cdudf_xp and restored it.

This file is for Roxio, why did you replace it?

Please answer all questions.

All the best,
SG
