Default XP 2002 Fax Console Freezes in "Refreshing" Mode

As soon as I open the fax console, it goes into indefinite "Refreshing" Mode.
Never gets to "Ready" anymore. How do I fix this? Is there a way to
uninstall/reinstall the Fax Console?

The Fax console can be uninstalled/re-installed from 'Control
Panel|Add/Remove|Windows Components'. How does your modem respond to
'Control Panel|Phone and Modem Options|Modems|Properties|Diagnostics|Query
Modem'? Has the Fax console worked in the past?

Default XP 2002 Fax Console Freezes in "Refreshing" Mode

Now seems it's suddenly working fine again after being out for two days. I'd
been using it with no problem for many years. In case problem comes back,
(1) I don't see Windows Components in Add/Remove Progrmas. (2) And if I do
uninstall, how do I then reinstall since it's not there anymore?
Thanks, Hal.

On my Add/Remove screen, there is a button on the left, the third one down,
that says "Add/Remove Windows Components". Are you logged in as an
administrator?

OK. I see it now. So after I remove, will it still be there to reinstall?
Will it ask me, when reinstalling, to insert a disk from my original Windows
program? Not sure if I have this anymore.

Yes, it will still be there to re-install and yes, it may request your
Windows install CD, it did on the machine I tried it on.

Default XP 2002 Fax Console Freezes in "Refreshing" Mode

I have the same problem. My fax worked fine for a long time. Lately I have to
reïnstall the fax console every time I restarted the PC otherwise I can't use
the fax console because it freezes in the refreshing mode. How can I
definitively solve this problem? Any suggestions?
