I have to keep an eye on task manager all the time to check on what's running
that doesn't need to since every other program these days wants to have
something running in the background either for updates or putting junk in the
systray. I get tired of having to go online all the time looking up these
processes to see what some of them are before killing them.

Is there a good program from Microsoft or anyone that is free that can
monitor processess, identify them and weed out processes that are just
slowing things down?
Thanks,

Everyone has their own opinion about whether a process is "just slowing
things down" so the answer to your question is: no.

Try Goggling "process explorer" and you're there. It's a GREAT program that
does it all.
