Default drive can't be shared

We have a computer with a USB drive that is shared by multiple users.
Suddenly the can no longer map to the drive. On the computer hosting the
drive, Windows will not allow permissions for the drive to be shared.

The error message is "This has been shared for administrative purposes. The
permissions cannot be set."

No data on this error message in MS KB.

Anybody got a clue?
