Default Toolbar is too big

My toolbar / taskbar / Quick launch bar - on the bottom of the screen
got too wide when I was trying to move around some of the icons. It's
now the height of three of them, or using up about 1.5 inches at the
bottom of my screen. How do I fix that?

On a clear part , right click ," unlock " , go to the top of the bar , when
you get a 2 headed arrow , left click and pull down to where you want it .
Right click again " lock " it .

I was going to say something like this, but reading yours, it occurs to
me it might be unlocked already, or the OP couldn't have widened it.

I guess I'm nitpicking. Sorry, but it's typed already.

It was unlocked. That double arrow does not fix the double layer.
However, I spent awhile looking on the web, and found that there is a
nearly invisible bar inside of it, next to the START button, it needs to
be pulled to the right. This seems to have been a common problem over
the years, and there are many questions about it on the web. It's a
really poorly designed feature, and there is nothing in the Windows Help
file about it.

I now know that I was moving icons right by that line, when the problem
occurred. I now have it locked. But I wont forget how to fix it if
needed again, after wasting at least 2 hours on it.

For more info, in fictionalized form, see if you can rent "The Horrror
of the Task Bar" starring Vincent Price, Lon Chaney Jr, Bela Lugosi, and
Ida Lupino.

Is there really such a movie? That's funny!
