Default Adaptec VideOh

Transcript below of problem with Adaptec VideOh CD. The solutions provided have proved useless, as is the £50.00 package that simply will not work. I'm willing to admit to any stupid mistakes but everything that has been suggested by Adaptec check out. An
y ideas?

I have followed the installation instructions to the letter for my
VideOh CD and have encountered a number of problems but the main one is
that the package AVCapture just will not work. I am using a scart combi
cable between my video recorder and the VideOh CD AVC 1100 but I cannot
see anything in the preview window and when I try to capture video
nothing appears in the file. Can you help please?

(I am an experienced PC user)

Greetings from Adaptec,

If you are encountering preview problems with the AVC-1100 unit, then
the most likeky culprit is going to be your video card drivers or video
settings within the software. This is not to say that it definitely
will resolve your issue, but it is a very good start.

First start by opening the AV Capture program and going to the
'Options' pull-down menu. Make sure that "Preview" is selected. We
realize that this sounds very simple, but the option can often be
unchecked and it's a good place to begin.

Next you will want to open up the Display properties. To do this,
'right-click' somewhere in the desktop area and scroll down to
'properties.' Then go to the 'settings' tab. Ensure that your desktop
area is set to 1024x768 pixels and that you are using 32 bit True
Color.

You may also want to verify that the video card drivers are current for
Windows XP. To check this go from the 'start' menu up to 'run.' Type in
the text box "dxdiag" to bring up the Direct X Diagnostics. Once this
is open, choose the 'display' tab and write down the version of the
video driver (on the top right side of the window) and then verify that
it is current with the drivers that are available from the video
manufacturer's web site.

Another thing that you will want to ensure -- is to correctly set the
Preview option in the Adaptec AV Capture program. When you open AV
Capture, go to the Options pull-down menu and make sure that Preview is
selected. This sounds very simplified but it often times is not set
correctly.

Also make sure that the following categories and listings are present
in Windows XP in the Device Manager:

under 'Imaging Devces'
Adaptec AVC-1100 Video Capture Device

under 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers'
Adaptec AVC-1100 Video Capture Device

If any of these listings are incorrect, then please update us here.

Thank you,

I have followed through all of your suggestions from checking that the
preview box was checked to confirming that the drivers are current for
my NVIDIA GeForce MX 400 graphics card. Still the package will not work
and I am beginning to see that my wife has wasted £50.00 on an
impossible product. Is there anything else I can try?

Hello,

It may be that the capture drivers for the VideOh! DVD unit have become
'unhooked' from the software. You might be able to simply update the
drivers for the 'AVC-1100' device listing and let Windows
"automatically" search for and install them.

If this does not resolve the issue, then try updating the drivers for
the 'AVC-1100' but don't let Windows search for them and instead
'Choose from a list' of known drivers. This often times will allow you
to choose the model last installed in the system and repair the
drivers.

Go to the Device Managers and check your Sound, Video and game
controllers. The AVC-1100 should be listed. If you right click on the
AVC-1100 - Under the general tab the Device is working properly. If
everything checks out you should be able to capture video with the
software.

Hope this helps and thank you for using Adaptec's Online support.
