Default Maximize Performance - WinXP Home P2P

I have three WinXP Home and one Win2K Pro computers connected to a Microsoft
MN-500 wireless router (WEP enabled). I have mapped network shares of the
"My Documents" folders and one printer share. I would like to maximize the
performance of this small network, but could use some suggestions.

I am using the built-in DHCP server in the MS wireless router. Would
assigning static IP addresses improve connection speed through the router?
The only protocol installed is TCP/IP. Are there certain settings that will
increase perfomance? Are there other protocols that I should install?

I've checked a few web sites (TweakXP, TechRepublic, Practically Networked),
but most of the performance tweaks seemed to be geared toward a network
server, not a P2P network.

Any help in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe G.
