Default S3 Virge DX/GX on Windows XP and driver

I was able to get my S3 Virge DX/GX on Windows XP working in a multi
monitor setup by making it the primary video card in the computer bios
settings. On my Dell Precision 390 the bios had a choice of PCI
express or PCI. The default was PCI express. By following point 4 in
the post below I changed the bios video setting for primary card to
PCI, saved the setting and rebooted. The boot messages came up on the
S3 Virge DX/GX connected monitor and Windows XP booted normally. I
then went in to the display properties, settings and extended my
Windows desktop on the new monitor. Everything works great now and I
am enjoying a desktop 3 monitors wide all at 1280 x 1024 resolution
although the S3 Virge DX/GX can only handle 16 bit color at that
resolution - a small price to pay for a third monitor.

Thanks so much to Bob Young for that post back in 2002.
