USB to Ethernet switchover curiodity
I've been running my cable internet modem through USB. Today I got a couple
Cat5e's (I don't recall specifying the "e") in the mail and hooked one up I got nothing. An hour or two later a gal at Comcast is telling me to swap ends on the cable. I did. Now I'm on with ethernet. Question: Do all ethernet cables need a certain end at the computer? Is this something specific to cat5e? Thanks -- JimL |

Turn your cable modem off and then on again (unplug it). Then turn
it back on. On Mon, 10 Aug 2009 14:47:49 -0400, "JimL" wrote: I've been running my cable internet modem through USB. Don't know if you might have received a cross over cable or if there
was a bad connector. But you say things are now working.. On Wed, 12 Aug 2009 16:22:06 -0400, "JimL" wrote: That was move number one. Thanks "Barb Bowman" wrote in message .. . Just did a continuity check and they're straight through. But on the one
that won't work it looks like there is too much plastic around the metal blocking contact. Or maybe the metal parts weren't pushed in right. It was hard to even get the probes to touch in places. You can't get a good cigar any more. "Barb Bowman" wrote in message ... Don't know if you might have received a cross over cable or if there was a bad connector. But you say things are now working..
