Default Support for Jabber?

Does anyone know if there are any plans to open up Messenger to connect
to jabber servers? I know it's not a typical move for MSFT, but the
fact that I could centrally control and manage the Messenger client
better than any other third-party app would make it very useful if my
org decided to go that direction...

TIA,
BM
