Default CD/DVD Rom Not functioning ERROR CODE 41

I have a problem with my CD/DVD rom working. my cd drive no longer appears
and when I look in device manager their is a question mark next to is. The
error message I am getting is:

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot
find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Have tried using the troubleshooter but it is unable to help me. The cd rom
is actually built into my laptop so it's not something external that I
connect myself.

Can anyone help?
