Normally I update Windows *only* when I have absolutely nothing else to
do. My machines may go months at a time with no updates.

My WinXPproSP3 machine has gone for 9 years without an update or
problem.

So what - you do know that Win 10 Home users have NO control over update
timings

I found this:

Kind of an insane way to do things but really the only thing sensible to do

The question is about AFTER install, not preventing an install

Web based forums are like subscribing to 10 different newspapers
and having to visit 10 different news stands to pickup each one.
Email list-server groups and USENET are like having all of those
newspapers delivered to your door every morning.

No, once Win10 is installed, Win10 Pro has this setting
in GPEdit, for controlling updates and upgrades. It's
not clear whether similar things can be done using
Regedit in Win10 Home, as Win10 Home has no GPEdit by
default.

Apparently, that setting changes the software stream
the OS is on.

That picture is taken from Win10 Pro Insider edition.

The same GPO options that apply to W10 Pro also apply to Enterprise and
Education editions(not Home)
- This GPO feature is 'Windows Update for Business' and arrived with
Version 1511 RTM

For Home - wysiwyg
