Default Wireless icon is wrong

I have Windows XP with SP2. I have a wireless net with
an 802.11B router to the Internet.

Everything worked fine until I activated WEP and PEAP.
Now I often have to manually connect. Once connected
everything works OK except the Icon in the systems tray
has an X and when looking at the wireless network list it
says not connected in the upper right but when highligted
it says connected and the only option below is to
disconnect - very confising.

I also get messages about not being able to connect,
although I'm connected and I'm able to use IE and email.\

Very confusing. Any help with configuration, settings,
etc. would be appreciated.

How many connections do you have listed in the Network
Connections folder in Control Panel?? I had a problem
similar to this with conventional connectivity. I cleared
it by deleting all other connections listed except the one
I wanted to run as the defualt.
